Caroline Phillips

German, French, and English

President & Head Teacher

I was raised in a bilingual German and French-speaking family and we often traveled to France and Belgium. This immersion experience not only provided a natural learning environment but also a cultural education. I learned English in school and subsequently lived in London for several years immersed in the English language which solidified my tri-lingual skill set. I incorporate immersion techniques in my teaching strategies and my own curriculum.

When I relocated from London to Washington, DC, I worked for the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) training US Delegates to speak French or German. This experience took my skills to the next level. My objective was teaching language fluency in just 9 months. To accomplish this aggressive goal, students required intensive one on one class training and hours of self-study to learn the required vocabulary. I incorporate some of those strategies at LingualMuse to accelerate learning.

In 2016 I founded LingualMuse with Joe Galea. In addition to the joy of teaching languages to my personal students, I am thrilled to oversee the teaching skills of our teaching staff. I am excited to work with my students and immerse myself in my language teaching every day.

Virginia Cutchin

Mandarin & English

English Team Leader \ Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coach Federation

Hello! My English name is Virginia Cutchin. My Chinese name is “ke mei” / 柯玫。 I live in the eastern US and teach English and Mandarin. I call myself an interculturalist, training and coaching people from all over the world about cultural heritage, differences and similarities. I am fortunate to have lived in several countries and traveled to many more; I have also studied several languages. The one that still intrigues me the most is Mandarin, which I have studied and taught for many years! Through all these experiences I have learned that language is more than just words; and that we are all students, and we are all teachers.

I believe in the wholistic approach to teaching language which includes culture, current events and other topics. Language exists in context, and I know that an understanding of that context provides the richest environment in which to embrace the language. Our language learning journey never ends, and I look forward to sharing part of that journey with you!

My name is Mariya (pronounced "Maria") Kaganskaya.

I was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and grew up in San Francisco, CA, where I attended the French American International School and developed my love for languages. Becoming trilingual at a relatively young age gave me insight into the process of learning a new language. I have also had the experience of studying additional languages later in life, most notably Italian and German, and can appreciate that experience as well.

I got my BA at the University of California, San Diego, where I studied music and literature/writing, and earned my Master of Music and Postgraduate Diploma in vocal performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I currently live in San Francisco with my husband, baby son, and rescue dog, and work as a professional opera singer, performing all over the United States and abroad. I have performed roles with opera companies including the Santa Fe Opera, Arizona Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Omaha, Opera Ithaca, Opera Santa Barbara, and New Opera NYC, and sung with orchestras including the Central Texas Philharmonic and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Italian team leader

Ciao! My name is Sabrina Fedato.

I am Italian. I was born in Treviso, a beautiful medieval town located in the North East of Italy, close to Venice (in Italian Venezia). I still live in Treviso and work as an English teacher in local middle and high schools. I am also a tour guide in the Province of Venice and Treviso. I've been working in tourism since 2005.

It goes without saying that I love Italy as well as the region where I was born, Veneto. I am very proud of being Italian and taking tourists around to discover the treasures of my homeland is most rewarding indeed.

I have always been fascinated by the past, because the past provides the insight needed to uncover the reasons for the present.

That’s why after my diploma in Tourism, I took a Master’s Degree in Language Sciences at the Cà Foscari University in Venice. I wanted to satisfy my curiosity by discovering historical works and languages, following the path of the history of humankind. My final dissertation was about Language interference in the history of English. I also studied for a semester at the Warwick University in the UK and at the Venice International University.

Spanish and English

Spanish Team Leader

Having been on both sides, learning and teaching, of several foreign languages, I have developed a very good understanding of the different components of learning a language (vocabulary building, pronunciation, language constructs, etc.), and how to combine them most effectively to accelerate learning and make it enjoyable. One-on-one time is best utilized for pronunciation, clarifying use of language constructs and colloquialisms, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and designing a plan specific to each individual student to achieve that student’s specific goals (e.g., introducing a child to foreign languages, tutoring a student preparing for a year abroad, learning enough to make a vacation more enjoyable, brushing up to prepare for business meetings, or mastery of the language to relocate to a foreign country).

I was born in Mexico and grew up bilingual – English and Spanish. I moved to the US as a child to attend boarding school. I have a B.S. degree in Computer Science from University of California, Riverside. I did my graduate work in Software Engineering at Stanford University. I have lived in Southern and Northern California, Boston, Miami, and Arizona.

Portuguese and English

Hello everyone! Oi gente!

I never though one day I would be here, writing my bio and inviting you to this incredible journey of learning a second language (in some cases, the third or the fourth). I was born in Brazil and as most of kids from my generation, my dream was to be a soccer player. Well, it did not happen. Teaching English as a second language (and Portuguese to foreigners) came into my life a bit later than to most of language teachers I’ve met. It was back in 1997, at the age of 25, when I was looking for a day time job, after spending several years bartending all over the world. I was physically tired and seeking a healthier life style when I saw this ad for English Teachers from a Language school in São Paulo. Born and raised in a family of teachers, what outcome would you expect? I got the job and I absolutely fell in love with it. It’s been an incredible journey, teaching all sorts of students, from high executives from multinationals, to ambitious teenagers looking for better career opportunities, from retired ladies who have decided to travel the world, to actors willing to improve their Brazilian- Portuguese accent. Literally, I had the chance to meet thousands of students and it has always amazed me how much we can grow and learn together while teaching and sharing experiences.

Andrea Jimenez

Spanish, French, and English

Hello there! My name is Andrea, I was born in Bogotá, Colombia.

When I was 4 years old I began learning French at the Lycée Français Louis Pasteur here in Bogotá. I was lucky that my parents had the forethought to enroll me in a bilingual school and very quickly I became fascinated by the way our minds work. Our perception, comprehension, behavior and overall the way we communicate, and our connection with people, changes when we embrace and get immersed into a culture different from our own. It opens our minds and our hearts.

In high school I finally started learning English and it came easily to me after having learned french so young. I then went to college in Barcelona, Spain, to study Communication and Advertisement. While living in Barcelona, I was again offered the chance to connect and communicate with people from all around the world, and also to understand the multicultural and transcultural aspects of global society today.

This experience also helped me to improve my language and communications skills, as well as showing me the importance of being able to share and communicate with different people on the same level, and to use the same language in a more direct and truthful way.

Cześć, Hallo, Hola!

I’m a first-generation Polish American born and raised in NYC! Growing up bilingual, I had the opportunity to travel since an early age and adopted this passion early , having now been to 15 countries and living in my 5th! I cultivated my polyglot persona by studying Mandarin during my school years, entering Mount Holyoke College without any German knowledge and graduating with High Honors, while also dabbling in French and even Danish for fun. It couldn’t stop there, I took on Spanish in my adulthood and am a part-time digital nomad traveling Central America with my partner and soul dog, Luna with sunny Costa Rica as our base!

For me, it’s not about just learning a new language, it’s unveiling a new form of expression and approach to communication. I am keen on incorporating cultural aspects and engaging in language learning through conversation and exposure of literature, music, film. Regardless of the reason you are pursuing your language study, I will adjust to your goals, preference, and speed with compassion, empathy, and patience.

Fatimah Dwi Cahyani

Indonesian, Japanese, and English

Apa kabar! Greetings! Hajimemashite! I am Fatimah.

I am an Indonesian native, and fluent in English and Japanese. My love for exploring new cultures nurtures me since childhood, which brings me to the journey to my new hobbies such as learning language, art, and design. I used to learn various foreign languages. Yet in the end, I stayed for English and Japanese learning because I love playing the console games, reading comics, listening to Westlife-JPop music, and watching drama series without subtitles.

By the last year of high school, I realized that I wanted a career that could offer me the freedom to work online or remotely. Since then, I chose to enroll in Japanese literature. I was so fascinated by foreign cultures since I was staying at Japan for JASSO Scholarship's 1-year program, did my intern on tourism government office, being a tutor/buddy for Japanese-Australian university students, also after I did intern tour guide for UNESCO heritage site of Indonesia's Borobudur temple.

On the other hand, my love for art never fades away. I did continue to work as a freelance digital artist since 2013 and being a remote artist for 2.5 years at a comic publishing studio. Currently, I live on my own in Indonesia's capital city Jakarta, focused as a translator for Japan financial company. Sometimes, I do a freelance translation and digital art commission from online clients. In the online world, I believe that we can easily connect to people and cultures. Through teaching, I am eager to see me and my students thrive in new languages or improve the ones they already have a good basis for, learning with them and watching each other grow and blossom. Thus, I am so excited to be one of them, to share, teaching languages online, and meet you soon!

While in Boston, I taught Japanese courses at Boston College as well as at Japanese Saturday school to American children aging from 6-12. After returning to Japan after living in Boston for 5 years, I taught Japanese Culture and Society classes to students from Lynnfield College who were studying abroad in Japan for 5 years. I moved to Orlando, Florida in 2016, while continuing to work as a professional cross-cultural communication consultant assisting numerous companies and governments, I also taught Japanese history and society to high school and adult students.

Camila Varas

Spanish and English

Hello, there!

My name is Camila and I was born and raised in a bilingual home in Buenos Aires, Argentina. So, I learned Spanish and English at the same time. I've been lucky enough to travel the world since a very young age. I also lived abroad and studied in London for a while.

I majored in Social Communications and now write, read, edit, teach, and sometimes translate for a living. I love teaching because, since I work from home, it's the one part of my job where I get to meet new interesting people from different backgrounds, ages and even countries or cultures.

I look forward to seeing my students thrive in new languages or improve the ones they already have a good basis for, learning with them and watching each other grow and blossom.

Dejan Bogosavljevic

Serbian and Portuguese

I was born in the year of Dragon, 1976, in Kragujevac, a province city in the middle of one of the most passionate regions in Serbia, Šumadija, a region still rich in ancient forests. I grew up and was educated in the small Serbian medieval capital, Kruševac, where nearby myths and legends from Celtic (II a.c.) to traditional poetry from the XIXth century about the Serbian medieval epoque are still alive among people.

From primary school, mostly driven by sports, literature, history and music, I moved to the local Grammar School, department of languages and social sciences. Passionate for languages, I started to involve more in science, both social and natural.

Always amazed by the science behind food, in 1995 I started my studies in the Agricultural Faculty, Belgrade University, in the Department of Food Technology, Plant Programme.

In my later years on the Faculty, as a working group coordinator and vice-president of Belgrade committee of International Association of Agricultural Students, I participated in organizing FAO supported Summer School on Renewable Energy Sources and Student Exchange Programmes. Sustainability became my guideline in professional activities. I spent 2 years in Mozambique as project coordinator and assistant in education and

Melisa Morini

Spanish

Hello everyone! I'm Melisa Morini and I'm from Argentina.

I am currently living in Argentina although I chose a nomad way of life a couple of years ago. I studied journalism in the National University and worked in radio, television and written press. Today I work freelance for a few information websites and my personal blog.

I first started teaching for a state program whose goal was to help young adults over 24 finish high school and get their diplomas. That experience made me want to know more about the teaching/learning process so I studied to become a high school teacher. I have worked in different programs and levels, formal and non formal education since the age of 24. I found in teaching a really important role, with responsibility and compromise.

I learned English in a bilingual school and improved it by travelling, working in tourist areas, and in the permanent exchange with the people I meet from every part of the world! For me, learning languages comes naturally. Three months living in Brazil were enough for me to learn Portuguese!

I´m a curious person, I love to meet new people, and I really enjoy teaching my mother tongue and finding similarities and differences between cultures. I´m excited to work side by side with my students and help them reach their goals through the fantastic world of Spanish.

Deanna Kling

Spanish and English

Hola & Hello!

I am Deanna and am so excited to teach you English and/or Spanish.

I was born and raised in Canada until age 8, when I moved with my family to Colombia. When I moved, I didn't speak Spanish, which felt very scary and overwhelming. Despite this, I managed to learn the language and also many things about myself and the culture. It's amazing how our brains are always excited to receive new information – learning anything new is a gift.

After living in Colombia for most of my life, I moved back to Toronto, Canada, to study for my career as an Industrial Designer. I lived and worked there for about 6 years, until I moved again to Colombia where I developed my career as a jewelry designer. What I love the most is practicing the ability to connect with others, and by understanding their story being able to help them create and reach their goal translated in a beautiful piece of art.

I currently live in Chile, while still connecting, embracing and living new experiences every day.

I have learned during my life and also during my career as a designer that as humans, we are POWERFUL beings, full of light and creativity. If you want to learn a new language, nothing is above you.

Nail Kalač

English, Bosnian, Montenegrin, and Serbian

Hello! My name is Nail Kalač. I live in the beautiful country of Montenegro, located in the south-east of Europe. Growing up in a multidialectal region like the Balkans, I was exposed to different kinds of accents and dialects of my native language, Montenegrin, and was able to pick up dialects of the languages around me (Bosnian, Serbian). However, my love for learning languages did not stop there: when I was 16, I was introduced to the mesmerizing world of fantasy literature (more precisely, Middle-Earth), and reading novels in English filled me with a sense of awe and admiration. That is when I decided to study English. I have been teaching English since 2017. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature from International Burch University in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, in 2017. Furthermore, I received a 120-hour TEFL certificate from TEFL ORG UK in 2019. I have had various teaching experiences, and I am familiar with modern teaching approaches. Previously, I taught at a university (helping students of German, Bosnian and Serbian develop their speaking and listening skills), and I also worked in the local high school (that was a blast). I taught both adult and teenage students, and I am lucky to have helped so many bright minds. I published one short story (it was a cold December day… ), and I want to write a novel one day.
