Andrea Jimenez
Spanish, French, and English
Hello there! My name is Andrea, I was born in Bogotá, Colombia.
When I was 4 years old I began learning French at the Lycée Français Louis Pasteur here in Bogotá. I was lucky that my parents had the forethought to enroll me in a bilingual school and very quickly I became fascinated by the way our minds work. Our perception, comprehension, behavior and overall the way we communicate, and our connection with people, changes when we embrace and get immersed into a culture different from our own. It opens our minds and our hearts.
In high school I finally started learning English and it came easily to me after having learned french so young. I then went to college in Barcelona, Spain, to study Communication and Advertisement. While living in Barcelona, I was again offered the chance to connect and communicate with people from all around the world, and also to understand the multicultural and transcultural aspects of global society today.
This experience also helped me to improve my language and communications skills, as well as showing me the importance of being able to share and communicate with different people on the same level, and to use the same language in a more direct and truthful way.
Breaking the barriers of otherness that make us suspicious and insecure, focusing on things that bring us together as human beings, and being able to share our selves and connect to others at a higher and deeper level of understanding, are all important to me and my sense of self.
After Barcelona I moved to Madrid to study Anthropology and then came back to live in Bogotá in 2010 to continue studying. Since then I have become certified as a Hatha Yoga and Restorative Yoga teacher from the Gokul Yoga System for 3 years now, and I have worked on hospitality, customer service, training dogs and dog sitting.
Due to my love of languages and communication, I started teaching languages to children at a very early age at every chance I had, particularly to the children of my mother's friends and other acquaintances. I have always loved to connect with people, I am very outgoing, talkative and spontaneous. I also love to share all my knowledge and my passions. I am in love with nature and animals.
I think teaching, helping others improve, and offering knowledge through a method to acquire language skills is a gift. It is sharing and giving from our hearts. It helps us to understand and open our minds, and thereby exchange experiences and perspectives that have helped us build understanding and acceptance towards each other.
We all learn in different ways because we are all unique. That is why it is so important to a have an adaptable teacher who focuses on each individual’s learning process, skills, difficulties and insecurities. It is a goal I am always looking to achieve and perfect. We all learn from one another, always.
I am here for you.
